Day 1 in Åland

6/19: the day starts late when you go to bed at 0215! We started the morning with warmer temps than Iceland, and a visit with Mats’ brother and family (Lele, Eleanor, and 5 children, rabbits, and a tiny dog).

Wendy, Bob, and I took the bikes to the local grocery store

Quinn, Simone, and Mats went on their boat to do some fishing, while Wendy, Bob, and I did some Apple Fitness on the porch by the water. We reconvened for Happy hour (champagne!) and a delicious dinner of fried Perch that Mats caught and potatoes from a local

farmer.

Dinner at 9pm - SO light!

We finished off the day with a sauna in the wood-burning sauna that Mats’ dad built in 1969. It’s just a short walk from their house to the sauna which is on his sister’s portion of the property. After you sauna you run into the “lake” as Mats says (the ocean) which is 62 degrees. Brrr!
