7/1 - 7/2: We slept in a tiny bit because of our rough night. Quinn's ankle was hurting, and he didn't think he could walk the 1 mile into town, so I made lunch for him and the 3 of us walked into town. We debated about the activities we could do and how we could get Quinn into town with us. The weather wasn't that great (fortunately not raining but quite windy) so we decided against kayaking, which had been #1 on all of our lists. We decided to just explore the town, have our picnic lunch while we watched the local kids swim in the frigid water, and head back to our place to play cards and eat dinner.
7/2: Great night of sleep for all of us! Bob and I got up early and went on a 4 mile walk into town and along the fjord. A lite drizzle but a great way to start the day. The water in the river behind our place is SO clear!

I almost stepped on this guy on our walk. |
We packed up and got out the door of our place by 11. We were able to leave our bags with our hosts while we walked into town for our noon reservation to visit the Stegastein lookout in a minivan tour. Thankfully Quinn’s ankle felt well enough to make the 1 mile walk into town.

The weather cleared up! This scene is just outside our apartment. These electric self driving lawn mowers were everywhere! |
The drive to the Stegastein lookout was about a 30 minute drive up a windy, sometimes one lane road. We were VERY thankful we were not driving, as we had briefly considered renting small electric mini cars to drive ourselves to the lookout. Our driver had clearly made the drive many times before, knew where to pull over, and even had to help other drivers navigate the narrow road (including assisting a camper van turn a tight corner that he cut too close!)

The walk out to the lookout |
The views were amazing.
We returned from the lookout, got the kids settled in a cafe with lunch, and Bob and I walked the 1 mile back to our place to collect the 4 rolling duffels. The timing worked great to get back to town and get on the ferry for a 1530 departure to Bergen. We were very thankful to be on the ferry for the 5 hour trip, as one of the options we had been considering in the Flam - Bergen trip planning was taking a ferry ride, to a bus, to a train. Even though we love our bags, and are happy
with the amount of stuff we have, moving 4 duffels around is still a challenge!
The high speed ferry ride was really fun - we stood out front for a little while, but it goes QUITE fast, so we alternated between the back and our window seats inside.

We stopped at a few small ports along the way. |

Jamming all of us and our bags into the elevator! |
We were on the 7th floor in a great apartment building only a 5 minute walk from the ferry. This Airbnb was lovely and modern - a welcome change from the last place! We dropped the kids at our place and Bob and I headed out to the local grocery store at 9:30pm - this one’s open til 11!
