Blue Lagoon and Independence Day

6/17: We travelled to the Blue Lagoon (we had to go around the peninsula instead of the direct route because of the lava flow from the erupting volcano).  The road we drove on to get there was actually steaming on the sides from the heat!

After the Blue Lagoon we travelled back to Reykjavik. It happened to be Iceland’s Independence Day - we went downtown Reykjavík and saw Rainbow Street, mailed Quinn’s postcard, and saw the famous church before heading back to our awesome apartment for our second night of chicken, salad, and Mac n cheese (kids choice and very nice to relax in our lovely apartment).

Iceland…what a unique country! The words we’ve thought of to describe it are: raw and rugged…like stepping back in time. The vast landscapes of lava fields were incredible, the waterfalls were beautiful, and the wind was ever present!
