7/4: Happy 4th of July! No fireworks for us here in Norway. We decided against going to the famous Edvard Grieg museum (sounded kinda snoozy for the kids) and the local museum is under renovation. So we took advantage of another morning of no rain to rent bikes for the kids again and explore more of the city. The 1 hr bike rental was a hit again as we could cover 3 miles easily together.

Simone especially liked watching them cook at the fish market. |
We bought some smoked salmon and fresh shrimp to make at home (Simone’s request) for dinner. Bob and I bought 2 single beers at the liquor store to enjoy at home ($8/each!) At a restaurant/bar you pay double that!! A rainy afternoon made it cozy to play cards with Happy Hour, enjoy our smoked fish and shrimp, and watch a Star Wars movie.
7/5: A sunny morning in the rainiest city in Europe! Bob and I went for a walk/run before the kids got up.
We finished off some food in our fridge, packed up, and left our place by 1100. We put our stuff in locker storage by the bus station where we’d catch the bus to the airport later, and set out to buy a couple items before we left Bergen (a Bergen print, a Norway sticker for Simone, and some smoked salmon at the fish market for our next hosts in London).

Charcot in Bergen |
The bus to the airport was seamless, and I’m reminded how I wish the US had better public transportation. We settled in for a beverage and dinner for the kids while we tried to watch a bit of the European soccer tourney.
Our final thoughts on our time in Norway: beautiful, scenic (fjords!), old (so many places from the 1500s - so much older than the US), expensive (beer!), unique (bricks for roads, statues (some naked), bikes for rent, super well kept and clean, orderly, environmentally conscious (recycling, electric cars)
Off to London! We’re set to stay with friends (the brother of one of Bob’s friends/tennis teammate) who has 2 children the same age as Q snd S:-)
