Rain, wind, adventure!

6/12 - after a great nights sleep we headed out to Skogarfoss waterfall - it was chilly, windy, and raining - but we were prepared with the right clothes!

You’ll notice how hard we’re laughing - we couldn’t believe we were hiking in such terrible weather! Now, I said we had the right clothes - sort of. I thought I prepared us for some light rain, but not serious rain! We didn’t have waterproof pants on - just water resistant - so our bottom halves got a bit wet. But! We brought our swim suits along as we thought we might be getting in a thermal pool - so Simone and I changed out of our wet underwear into our swimsuit bottoms. Much better! We still had to put our wet pants on again…

Our next stop was at a unique house built into the side of the hills - we noticed a lot of these along the countryside.

We continued on to see the Solheimajokull glacier. SO thankful the rain had paused for this hike!

Next was an indoor/ourdoor museum showcasing Icelandic life. We noticed a few pieces from grandma and grandpas house, and Simone taught Quinn a few things in the old schoolhouse!

Our last stops for the day were at Seljalandsfoss waterfall (you could walk behind it), a lighthouse, and at Reynisfjara beach (a black sand beach). The wind had really picked up, and we were wearing our winter hats under our rain jackets. It occurred to me that I was experiencing a ‘first’ - wearing my bikini bottoms with my winter hat and rain jacket on! Again - more laughing as we couldn’t believe how crummy the weather was!

The black sand beach was very cool with very picturesque black stones. The waves there are HUGE so you have to stand way back - there are ‘sneaker waves’ that occur randomly and can take people out to sea.

We had planned to go to a recommended dinner spot in Vik, but we were ready to get home! Quick stop at the grocery and bed.
