Beach views in Becici

12/1: Last exercise before leaving our lovely place in Mostar!

Bob hits 1000 days in a row on Duolingo!

Cows on the road along our route

We keep learning new things about Bosnia! There are two recognized entities in Bosnia: Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo is on the border and is the capital of both of them.

82% Serbs
14% Bosniaks
2% Croats

Republika Srpska was founded in 1992 at the outset of the Bosnia War with the aim of protecting the interests of the Serbs. The war led to the expulsion of the vast numbers of Croats and Bosniaks, while many Serbs were expelled from the Federation.

70% Bosniaks
22% Croats
2% Serbs

The difference is so interesting to me. Such a complicated past and present.

At the border crossing to Montenegro - we had read there could be painful delays, but when we crossed we were the only ones there and it took under 5 minutes!

Beautiful view with our trusty Duster - the second one we've had

Risan Bay

Our spot in Becici, just south of Budva 12/1 - 12/8

We love our view! Perfect spot on our patio - just above the palm trees. Another great Airbnb pick by Bob!

This looks fake but it's real!

Yet another amazing place for school

I LOVE hearing the waves

I'm on the right - that's a big rock!

We are thrilled with how many people have supported Project Foresee!

A lovely boardwalk

This space has been really lovely - exercise in the morning, kids doing school work while Bob and I accomplish our respective tasks enjoying the scene. I had been communicating with work trying to decide my path for when we return, and ultimately sent my resignation letter this week. It was a bit of a difficult decision, given that I've been there for 17 years, but all of the information available to me now points to the path that I've chosen...which is working per diem at Highlands Ranch...with all of my favorite friends. I'm excited to return to the work and people that I love where I feel such a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

We explored Budva one rainy afternoon:

Cute, narrow streets with a Venetian influence

I love our patio - even in the chill and rain

Out to a local pizza place on Friday night

The pizza and risotto were delicious - this dessert not so much

On our last day we drove about 40 minutes to Kotor. It’s only about 15 miles but it took so long because of the road construction (making the road much wider - much needed as it’s quite the tourist location in the summer! We can’t imagine how bad traffic must be then if it’s this rough now! Also - there are lots of bad/slow drivers here).

We explored the old town and walked up a mountainside trail; we’re thankful for the beautiful day after a few rainy/windy ones!

Yeah Christmas decorations!

This little Orthodox Church in the middle of a square looked like it had been plopped down here Wizard of Oz style.

Lots of cats all over! We decided we like outdoor cats to keep the rodents away.

Switchback trail

Getting up above the town

We haven’t had a picnic lunch in awhile! We found a fantastic place with our trusty bag - it’s still with us! Simone has missed pb n js. Ha!

Bob went a little further and made it to the fortress at the top

Great shot by Quinn!

Simone has loved creating artwork this week! I’m so glad we found that pad of paper back in our Mestre apartment! We love seeing her creations.

Our last sunset. We will miss this place! One week went fast!

Our favorite things about this place were the fabulous location (Bob’s research on Google maps looking at beach locations really paid off!) and the size of our unit; plenty of space to spread out, exercise, and study. Multiple grocery stores were close by to walk to, and we were able to park our car in a nearby lot for free. We won’t miss the loud people above us!
